ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL

ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL

Wouldn’t it be grand
If I could hold your hand
In a public place?
After twenty years together
We could hug each other
And make kissy face.
And would it be great
If we could go on a date
Without sneering glances.
That we could adopt kids
Be amazed at what they did?
What are the chances?

Wouldn’t it be lovely
If it was not only
A world of the future;
A world in a dream,
A world that could seem
More willing to nurture?
Where all think well of me
Where my life and history
Is the important thing.
Where freedom of spirit
Brings right along with it
What all human rights bring.

It would be so empowering
If equality in everything
Meant we were like you
And entitled to our rights
Without a big legal fight
No matter where or who.
We could plan our life
Without the ugly strife
Of people calling names,
And we and our children
Could be regarded as citizens
Because we are all the same.
